Energy

This term Room 7 is learning about energy and sound. We have been learning different forms of energy and how it travels. What is sound and its characteristics. To help us understand sound and energy we watched videos and did some experiments. I think that the slinky really helped me understand about sound waves. We used a slinky to see how sound waves can go though things and bounce of things. I found that how fast the light went around the world really interesting.

On week 3, term 4 Te Pahu school and Paterangi had athletics at Te Pahu school. We did it so everyone can have a taste of different sports. There were 6 events hurdles, sprints, high jump, long jump, shot put and discuss. Amy one of the students at Te Pahu school said, "It was a good day and i was really proud of my sprints." Next time I would want to try and jump higher in high jump. The day was really good and it looked like the students and parents really enjoyed themself.

Clearing and Planting Day

On Friday week 1 of Term 4, Room 7 and some Pirongia students went to Pirongia forest park lodge and cleared and planted a few hundred plants in the area around the outdoor class room. We did it so the outdoor class room is surrounded by bush. If you don't know what a outdoor class room is it's a classroom that will be used to teach people about nature. Amy said, "It was really good helping out the Pirongia lodge. I think that outdoor classroom will turn out really good." The funniest part was when Mr. Marquand rolled down the hill. At the end of the day I think everyone did a realy good thing for the lodge.

Ag Day

On Wednesday 16th of October, Te Pahu School's PTA organised Ag day at Te Pahu School. It was for the the students to have a taste of farming and for their lambs, cavles and goats to compete in leading and rearing and some other challenges. If the year 8 or 7 students weren't doing an animals they had to be a runner. Amy commented "That it was gutting there there was only 4 goats but it was still fun to see everyone enjoying them self with there animals. Thanks to the PTA we had a yummy lunch. On Ag day i had a lamb and in the lambs there are the events call and follow, leading and rearing. I did call and follow and I was really proud of my lamb because we came first and we went into the champion ring and got reserved champion. Then we did rearing and my lamb came first and got champion. I thought that it wouyld be really easy to clean my lamb but it wasn't because my lamb was really dirty and it was hard to clean. Amy said, "It was gutting that shes not here next year." At the end of the day everyone enjoyed them's self.

Aims Games 2013

Take your marks- Right- time to focus. Goggles on tightly. Down into the track start dive. My knees are shaking but I must concentrate on keeping as still as possible. I don’t want to false start. Beep we’re off. We all it the water together. Time to use our legs, head down. Work the pattern- 3 strokes and breathe. The water creeps into my goggles. I’m trying to breathe every three. My lungs are starting to burn in protest. Two lengths down finally I’m half way there. It feels like I have a big concrete block on my back but I know I can’t give up now. I try to go faster but it feels like there is something pulling me back like I’m attached to a piece of rope. Last turn. Time to dig it in. I try to go faster trying not to breathe. I’m nearly there. I can hear the crowd yelling and screaming. Is that my mother? How embarrassing? Bang! I touch the wall. What a relief to stand up but I’m really exhausted and it’s hard to breathe. I took at the big screen, where all the times and placing’s come up. On Monday 16th September & Tuesday 17th September 2013 I went to the Aims Games for swimming. Aims Games is a sporting competition for year 7 and 8’s only. It is at the Mount. It is for around the world and 7 schools from Australia were there and some from the cook island too. I got some PB’s but I sadly didn’t get into the finals. I train 6 times a week, 3 times in the morning witch means waking up at 5:30 in the morning to get to town on time. Also 3 times in the afternoon and land training twice a week where we work on our fitness. Hopefully it will all pay off.

Market Day

On Friday the 13th Te Pahu School had Market day. We also had our own society called Te Maunga Shire. We had a Prime Minster and our own goverment. People also made stall's. I did my venture with Kayla and Amy we made milkshakes, toffee, fudge cakes and coconut ice. It was a real success we sold out of toffee and coconut ice.

Snow Trip

On Friday 6th of September Room 7 went on a snow trip down to Whakapapa. I think the hardest part was trying to ski before we had lessons. I really wanted to give up at the start becasue I couldn't even stand up on the skis. I think the lessons were really good. At the end I was more confident, I could ski, I could stop and turn. I would love to do it again it was so much fun. Next time I would probably go up the mountain or go on a harder level.
